Tempo fu che bene andò BaG4/6:8 (xyyx ababby)

Language:

Lauda:

Pellegrin, Jesù incarnato, torno-a
BaG4/6:8 (xyyx ababby)

Lauda Poet:

Castellani/
d’Albizo

Notes:

note: CattinCC, 207-8, where he notes that the cc. probably alludes to a quatrain (4:7/8, aBBa) sung in Act III of Aretino’s Ipocrito: ‘Tempo fu che bene andò/vissi lieto senza pene/Bene andò che l’andò bene/or va mal quanto la può’. The incipit of the 2nd verse, ‘Pellegrino son tornato’, appears in the index to SevP. However, the probably immediate model is lauda text found in R2988, fols. 91v-93r which is cast in the same barzelletta form as ‘Pellegrin, Jesù incarnato, torno’: ‘Tempo fu che ben’ andò/poi ch’avevo d’ogni bene/hor mi trovo in tante pene/chagion io dal mal ch’io.’ Here, the cc. lauda is titled, ‘lauda del figlio prodigho’, which would seem to resonate with the subject matter of ‘Pellegrin’.

Lauda attributed to Castellani in R196.
