Note: there is no cc. source explicitly linking these two texts, but the relatively early date of the cc. as a carnival song text copied into Gianozzo Salviati’s zibaldone (by 1482), and the identity of incipit, compatibility of rhyme scheme, and similarity of subject matter (images of flight/escape) suggest that despite some irregular line lengths in the cc., d’Albizo modeled his lauda on the carnival song and thereby opened up the possibility of musical borrowing as well; see PrizerP.

note: both lauda are linked to ‘Ora mai’ and its musical settings, and to the youth confraternities at San Marco under Savonarola’s supervision. In LA424, lauda was sent to the ‘Compagnia di San Marco’, probably the Company of the Purification, a prominent youth confraternity at San Marco. See WilsonHM, passim.

note: CattinCC, 215, suggests that d’Albizo’s youth confraternity lauda is a parody of the cc., the ‘Canzona delle vedove e de’ medici’, ‘Deh maestri con fervore’; text ed. SingletonCC, 79-80. However, in the absence of a specific mention of this link in the sources, and given the difference in poetic forms, a more likely candidate as d’Albizo’s model is another carnival song, ‘Giovanetti con fervore/non vogliate più indugiare’ (see this title as a cc.); ed. and discussed in PrizerP.
