Poet:

Lauda:

Aiuta, aiuta quegli con l’orazione
BaG4/12:7/5 (XyYX ABbAACcddeEX)

Lauda Poet:

Bernardo Giambullari?

Notes:

note: carnival song--Canzona del gufo. Text ed. BruscagliTCC, i, 250; SingletonCC, 36. See GallicoRM, 50, where he links it to the music of ‘Jam pris amours’ on the basis of its citation in the quodlibet bearing that title in M164-7; see BeccheriniT, 82. Lauda in Gall4 bears heading ‘Lauda della canzone del gufo’, and bears rhyme scheme identical to Giambullari’s carnival song. Lauda probably by Giambullari, because of identity with his secular model, and proximity of the lauda in Gall4 to other laude by Giambullari.

Lauda:

O gloriosa regina del mondo-a
Str:11 (ababbacc dededeff)

Lauda Poet:

Feo Belcari

Notes:

note: D’AnconaPP, 481, indicates the cc. source as the ‘ed.1512’. Alternate cc = ‘strambocti’ in ed. 1512. Alternate cc. = ‘O gloriosa regina mundi succurre’, with musical settings in many sources (FallowsCat, 589). There are several secular poems with this incipit, including ‘E se gli è ver che l’alma’, and ‘Et se gli è ver che’l spirto vada attorno’; the latter is found in a 15thc. Florentine ms. from Medici circles, Oxford, Bodleian Libarary, Ms. Can. It. 99, and ed. in R. Spongano, I ‘Rispetti di più persone’ nel Ms. Can. It. 99 della Bodleian Library di Oxford, «Studi e problemi di critica testuale», IV, 1972, 79.

Lauda:

Deh dolce redentore Jesù soccorri
BaG (xYyX AbAbbCcX)

Lauda Poet:

Lorenzo
Tornabuoni

Notes:

note: text & music ed. Mancuso, 680-7. See MaceyB, 113-15, where Razzi’s setting is edited and underlaid with the text of Savonarola’s ‘Alma che sì gentile sei per amor’ (which along with d’Astore’s ‘Alma che sì gentile/ti fé’ have poetic forms and rhyme schemes identical to ‘Deh dolce redentor’). Music ed. with all 3 texts in MaceyS, 71-9; texts ed. & trans. xlviii-l. Gall4/Pal120/R196 transmit variant incipit ‘O dolce redentor’, and no cc. MaceyB reconstructs the chain of cc. links: d’Astore’s lauda had its own setting or could be sung to the tune of ‘O benigno Signore’ (Gall2); no music for ‘O benigno Signore’ survives, but in BNF, J.VIII.5 (late 16thc), ‘Signore soccorri aita’ (see Bartolomeo’s a4 setting) could be sung to ‘O benigno Signore’ or ‘O dolce redentore’. Thus, the setting in Rz1563 is a possible source for all of these texts.
