note: PetL/i transmits 4vv. settings of both texts, both by Dammonis, with some melodic similarities between the two. Music ed.in LuisiLG, ii, 334-5 (‘Jesù fammi morire’), & 351 (‘Se vuo’ gustar l’amore’).

note: cc. incipit and probable form (BaG:8) suggest a carnival song, but the text cannot be located in the primary printed sources. This lauda shares an identical form and rhyme scheme with another transmitted in the same sources, ‘Questa tuo pietà si grande’, which has a cc. of ‘L’alboro della ghiande’; it is likely, therefore, that both laude refer to the same song. A setting of the lauda is preserved in PetL/i.

note: carnival song--’Canzona delle Cicale’ (= cc. title in Gall3). BruscagliTCC, i, 21; OrvietoCC, 78-9 (ca. 1474-78). SingletonCC,117, transmits a different, anonymous ‘Canzone delle Cicale’, w/ the incipit ‘Fuor cicale in malora, fuor cicale!’, which does not formally match Lorenzo’s lauda text. 4vv. setting of lauda text in PetL/i (Dammonis), ed. in LuisiLG, ii, 336. note: GhisiCC, 92 gives the alternate title of this possible carnival song as the ‘Canto de’ votacessi’, and attributes it to Lorenzo de’ Medici. A 4-part setting of Tornabuoni’s lauda text is ed. in JeppesenL, 154-5. Alternate cc. for this lauda is Tornabuoni’s ‘Canzona dell’insalata’, possibly a reference to the same carnival song.
