Oimè, oimè questo misero CapQ:7/6 (ABBx CBBx DBBx..)

Language:

it

Lauda:

Jesù, Jesù ogni mie ben se’ tu
BaMn2/4 (XY abbx cddx...)

Notes:

note: cc may be same as B. Landini’s ‘Oimè, oimè quanto misero se’ (under this title and modo proprio), with music in Rz1563; ed. Mancuso, 549-55. Lauda in Pal169 is probably a corruption version of the ‘Jesù, Jesù ogni mio ben sei’ in M365 with a form (Qr:7/6 ABBx CDDx...) much closer to that of the cc. given here. LA766 preserves incipit identical to that of Pal169, with cc. ‘Home home.’

Poet:

Bonifazio Landini

Language:

Lauda:

E’ll’ardera, l’abrucera-a
CapQ:7/6 (AAAx BBBx...)

Notes:

note: Carboni-ZiinoLM,282. Music & text of cc. ed. Mancuso, 549-55. See ‘Oimè’ as modo proprio. In Ferr84, alternate cc.= ‘Tambur, tambur’ (cancelled), with music for single part in BR337. The a2 music in Rz1563 for Landini’s text is, in fact, the music for the soprano and tenor parts of ‘Tambur, tambur’ as preserved in M121 (the a4 version in CortP differs in texture, though is based on the same borrowed popular melody); see BlackburnTCS,134-8 (M121 version ed. 154--5); this confirms the direct cc. link between ‘Tambur’ and ‘E’ll’ardera’ entered (though cancelled) in Ferr84.

Rubric in R2224, ‘Cantasi come quella che dice Ogni huom faccia per se /chi non piu d’altrui c’altri di me’, which alludes more clearly to Soldanieri’s text than the rubric in Ch266: ‘va chome quella chanzona chew dice: Ongni uom faccia per sé, ch’i’ fo per me’, which also includes the alternate incipit ‘Ognium faccia per sé’.

Lauda:

O Jesù Cristo, padre e salvatore-a
Str:11

Notes:

note: music & text of cc. ed. PMFC8, 107-8. Variant incipit = ‘Ciascun faccia per se’, according to CattinSq, 250 where the cc.link cannot be verified in the sources (nor are the poetic forms compatible); Cattin cites R2224, 18v, but here the cc. for ‘O Jesù Cristo’ is ‘Partiti messere’, whereas ‘Ogni huom faccia’ is the cc. for ‘Ogni huom con pura fe’ on the same folio of this source. ‘O Jesù Cristo’ is transmitted in Ch266, but without a cc. WilsonSC, 74. In CattinSq, the music is ascribed to Paolo Tenorista & the text to Niccolò Soldanieri, whereas in PMFC8, 107 & 206, the music is attributed to Niccolò da Perugia and the text is considered to be anonyomous. The cc. poem appears in Giovanni Sercambi’s Novelliere (ca.1400); see CilibertiP, 13-15, where the cc. poem is attributed to Antonio Pucci.

See MaceyS,225, where he proposes the cc. link based on an interrated chain of cc. links involving the above laude & carnival song. Benivieni’s lauda is also the poetic model for ‘Non fu mai più bel convito/lieto dolce, e dilettoso’ in M365, which suggests a musical link for this anonymous lauda.
