note: rubric in CS1547: ‘I pastori fatto riverenza si partono cantando per via questa lauda’. Cc. text with music a3 in Razzi’s autograph ms., Pal173, fols. 14v-15r (‘Misera me che invan di doglio’), where Razzi relates that the 3-part music was ‘composta sopra un canto, che l’autore senti una volta cantare da’ certi fanciullette, andando fuori a di porto...la musica a tre voci non è se non vaga e bella.’ The music, as it turns out, is a varied setting of ‘Che bella vita ha il mondo’, the 3-part music of which Razzi used in Rz1563. The latter is a Str:11, and the setting in Pal173 has been modified to accommodate a short refrain, ‘Poverina me’. Given the late date of the cc. source, it may also refer to S. Casentini’s madrigal ‘Misero in van mi doglio’, publ. by Gardano in Venice, 1561; see Lincoln, 141.

This text of the cc., a popular lauda, is ed. in Luisi, i, 274, where its structure as a ballata grande is clear (the fragmentary text in Rz1563 is transcribed in Mancuso, where she calls it a canzone).

note: cc. text is probably not Giustinian’s ‘Maria vergine bella scala’ (a cc. for two other laude), since its poetic form does not match that of ‘Notte chiara’.

note: text & music of ‘Dolce Dio’ ed. Mancuso, 512-14. The popular tone and homophonic texture of the 3-part setting in Rz1563 suggest that this may be some version of the original music for the secular cc. text.
