In Ch266, cc. incipit ‘In su quell’alto monte è la fontana che trabochella drento vi si bagnia bella fantin[ell]a’ suggests an older secular model for Bianco’s 14thc. lauda text (‘In su quell’alto monte vi è una fontana che trabocch’ella d’oro vi son le sponde è d’argento la sua cannella’). Gall2 preserves yet a different cc. incipit for Bianco’s lauda: ‘In su quel monte chiara vi surge la fontanella’. Poet also called ‘Bianco dell’Anciolina Fiorentino, detto da Siena, Ingesuato’ (Gall2, p. 104). There are considerable differences between the texts transmitted in Gall2 & Rz1563. The 3-part setting in Rz1563 appears to be a simple arrangement of an older popular song, and very likely belonged originally to the secular cantasi come text.
